Information Thomas Wilson, was senior partner in Joseph Wilson and Sons, general merchants, North wall and Commercial Buildings, Dublin. He built Westbury, Stillorgan, and was a member of the Ouzel Galley Society, a trustee of the Royal Exchange, a director of the National Assurance Company of Ireland, and a governor of Sir Patrick Dun’s hospital. For many years he also served as United States consul in Dublin. However, his main career interest was in banking and he served as a director of the Bank of Ireland at various times during 1821-57 and as its governor 1838-40. In 1841 he enraged repeal political interests by describing Ireland as ‘overbanked’. He was elected a life member of the Dublin Society in 1813, his proposers being Alderman Carleton and Richard Darling. He was not notably active in the R.D.S. although he was recorded as proposing or seconding candidates for membership in 1833 and 1841. He died in 1857.
